Narcissus (#iwokeuplikethis)

Narcissus (#iwokeuplikethis) is another entry in the Mythos/Dogma series and a portrait of the Ancient Greek hunter synonymous with self-absorption. Doomed lover of himself, Narcissus falls unknowing in love with his own reflection in a pool of water. Upon the realization that his love could not be reciprocated, the hunter turns into the nodding yellow and white spring flower, a narcissus. An underlying theme of this piece and many of Mythos/Dogma, is the idea that certain aspects of what it means to be human are unchanging despite the progression of time and a changing society. Vanity and narcissism as a tool to cope with one’s own mortality is still utilized today, if not, exacerbated by the advent of technology and social media.
