Leda and the Swan (Swanboat I)

Leda and the Swan (Swanboat I) is part of the Mythos/Dogma series, of which an underlying theme is the restitution of agency to the female figures of Greek mythology and the Catholic canon. In a way, it’s a retelling of a story so long dominated by male perspective, ambition and dominance. Leda is a strange subject in mythological art. In comparison to most depictions of her and Zeus in swan form, my renditions are rather mundane. However, like the other drawings in Mythos/Dogma I have chosen to depict her post-Zeus life, not victimized, but in charge of her own romantic life, a heroine with a thing for swans getting back into the dating game.
